How does AI age prediction work?
In practice, an trail camera or jawbone image is uploaded to our website. After the image is cropped as tightly as possible, our AI model analyzes the image and provides an age estimate! We plan to offer two models, but this is a work in progress.
Behind the scenes, our proprietary algorithm leverages days of GPU-intensive computer vision model optimization. We strive to provide nothing for the best, and have sifted through 50+ models and a slew of hyperparameters to give you the best model possible! What image types work best?
Unlike other image-based age predictors, AgeMyDeer leverages pictures of all type: grayscale, color, and deer of all ages in any pose! Ideally, clear, well-lit photos showing the deer’s face and body (or clean jawbone images with visible teeth) work the best! During the upload process, you’ll be asked to crop the image; when you do so, the idea crop depends on the type of image!
For trail camera images, you’ll be asked to crop your image to a square. The square should include as much of the deer’s body as possible, with as little of the background as possible!
For jawbone images, you’ll be asked to crop your image to a rectangle. The rectangle should include all the teeth in the jawbone, with a small buffer on either side — give the teeth some room to breathe!
How much do analyses cost?
Regardless of the image you choose to analyze (trail camera or jawbone), each age prediction costs 1 credit, and each credit costs $1.00.
Behind the scenes, we incur infrastructure costs like weeks of heavy GPU usage, website hosting, server / analysis costs, and other features to keep your analysis as smooth and as quick as possible!
How accurate are the age predictions?
Age predictions are estimates based on state-of-the-art computer vision analysis. While our breakout accuracies were 74% for trail camera images and 90% for jawbone images, our models are continuosly evolving and improving. However, accuracy varies depending on image quality, and deer visibility.
How do I get credits?
You can purchase credits through our store! We offer individual and bundle credit purchases, annual subscription plans, and gift cards to suit your analysis needs and outdoor lifestyle! Keep in mind that due to the nature of our services, all sales are final, but we are more than happy to work with you to make sure you are satisfied!
What if my analysis fails?
Credits are only deducted from your profile if the analysis succeeds. If the analysis fails, no credits will be removed from your account! If this is not the case, we urge you to contact us at: info@agemydeer.com.
What if my analysis fails?
Images are processed and immediately deleted — we do not retain uploaded photos! We do, however, keep track of how many analysis have been requested through your account and the ages predicted by our model. This helps us provide you statistical information on your dashboard during login!
